چکیده
W e develop exterior calculus approaches for partial differential equations on radial manifolds. We introduce numerical methods that approximate with spectral accuracy the exterior derivative d, Hodge star ?, and their compositions. To achieve discretizations with high precision and symmetry, we develop hyperinterpolation methods based on spherical harmonics and Lebedev quadrature. We perform convergence studies of our numerical exterior derivative operator d and Hodge star operator ? showing each converge spectrally to d and ?. We show how the numerical operators can be naturally composed to formulate general numerical approximations for solving differential equations on manifolds. We present results for the LaplaceBeltrami equations demonstrating our approach.

Numerical method for Darcy flow derived using Discrete Exterior Calculus
We derive a numerical method for Darcy flow, hence also for Poisson’s equation in first order form, based on discrete exterior calculus (DEC). Exterior calculus is a generalization of vector calculus to smooth manifolds and DEC is its discretization on simplicial complexes such as triangle and tetrahedral meshes. We start by rewriting the governing equations of Darcy flow using the language of ...
متن کاملChebyshev Spectral Collocation Method for Computing Numerical Solution of Telegraph Equation
In this paper, the Chebyshev spectral collocation method(CSCM) for one-dimensional linear hyperbolic telegraph equation is presented. Chebyshev spectral collocation method have become very useful in providing highly accurate solutions to partial differential equations. A straightforward implementation of these methods involves the use of spectral differentiation matrices. Firstly, we transform ...
متن کاملThe chain collocation method: A spectrally accurate calculus of forms
Preserving in the discrete realm the underlying geometric, topological, and algebraic structures at stake in partial differential equations has proven to be a fruitful guiding principle for numerical methods in a variety of fields such as elasticity, electromagnetism, or fluid mechanics. However, structure-preserving methods have traditionally used spaces of piecewise polynomial basis functions...
متن کاملFinite Element Exterior Calculus for Parabolic Evolution Problems on Riemannian Hypersurfaces
Over the last ten years, the Finite Element Exterior Calculus (FEEC) has been developed as a general framework for linear mixed variational problems, their numerical approximation by mixed methods, and their error analysis. The basic approach in FEEC, pioneered by Arnold, Falk, and Winther in two seminal articles in 2006 and 2010, interprets these problems in the setting of Hilbert complexes, l...
متن کاملNumerical solution of variational problems via Haar wavelet quasilinearization technique
In this paper, a numerical solution based on Haar wavelet quasilinearization (HWQ) is used for finding the solution of nonlinear Euler-Lagrange equations which arise from the problems in calculus of variations. Some examples of variational problems are given and outcomes compared with exact solutions to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the method.
